Sample speaker contact message – Research Week keynote nominations

Professor Soandso,

My name is Jane Gradstudent and I am a PhD student in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia.

I would like to nominate you to be the keynote speaker during the UBC Faculty of Education’s Research Week, which will be held between May 11 and 14, 2015. The theme you would be invited to speak on would be “The question of methodology in educational research: Possibilities and problematics enacted before, during, and after the doing of research.” Based on your work [include reference to the nominated speaker’s publications/research], I believe you would bring a highly relevant contribution to this topic.

The nomination process is open to all graduate students of our Faculty and a short list will be selected by the organizing committee. All graduate students will then be invited to vote to choose their preferred keynote speaker. The Faculty of Education will cover reasonable costs for the chosen keynote speaker’s airfare, accommodation and meals (approximately $1,300 CAD) and provide a $750 CAD honorarium. The exact date of the keynote address will be set based on the speaker’s availability within the Research Week time frame (May 11-14, 2015).

Please let me know at your earliest convenience whether you would be interested and available for this speaking opportunity, as I must file the nomination brief before January 19th at 9 a.m. If you have questions about the process, you may also wish to contact Dr. Brigitte Gemme, Manager of Research Services for the UBC Faculty of Education (brigitte.gemme@ubc.ca or 604-822-0353).

I look forward to hearing back from you,

Jane
